Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard came out to announce that RealID will NOT be used in the new Blizzard forums.

We've been constantly monitoring the feedback you've given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums. As a result of those discussions, we've decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums.

For once, they really listened.

I think it's a little unfair to say "for once."

I'm glad they came around on this. I had little doubt they would given the outcry, but it's nice to see it happen.

Not that I do a lot of posting in Blizzard's forums, but this is really good news.

Effective Immediately I will be requiring the use of Real names on our website.

I am always striving to stay unique. Now that Blizzard has scrapped the idea I can use it and keep our individuality.

Obviously i'm joking.

This was a bad idea with good intentions........and it all but NUKED the forums. Considering that most of the people that have positively contributed to the forums over the years saw this in 3 ways. A complete invasion of privacy, a safety risk, or pointless.

Buuuuuuuut......I still say this has more to do with a blizzard employee's personal life invaded when real name was actually spoken.

it does hammer home a lot of the complaints that this was a risk they weren't willing to risk to be on the forums though
